How to Write a Proposal for GetaFreelancer for the Writer
How to Write a Proposal for GetaFreelancer for the Writer PDF Print E-mail

Beginning writers as well as more experienced authors may attain work by setting up an account on the site: GetaFreelancer.

Once you have provided a profile, your next step will be to provide a proposal to those where you wish to place bids.

The following steps will guide you through the process.

Instructions

Step 1. The first thing you will need to do is to read the project requirements. Then determine how your own particular skill set will be beneficial relative to the project. Also, it is important to pick projects that you know you will truly enjoy the a) Subject matter of the project; and b) the type of project.

Allow me to illustrate a bit further: If you believe you truly would like to work on an e-Book project then search for projects regarding e-Books. However, if you are more interested in writing articles then your project of choice should be article writing.

In regard to subject matter pick topics you have an interest in learning more about or you have possesed a prior interest.

Also, when you are reading the project description, if you get the sense that the business professional/employer may be a tad bit to restrictive or domineering and this does not suit your temperament then do not make concessions and tell yourself you will be able to deal with it. Remember you are a freelancer for a reason: You want greater control of what you choose for work and who it is you work. Therefore be realistic when selecting projects.

Step 2. If you are very inexperienced, and you are just wanting to attain projects in order to gain experience and make a little bit of pocket change then put together some self-assigned projects in order that you may boast you have projects in the works: In example, begin writing your own e-Book on the subject of your choice, begin an off-line book project promising yourself you will self-publish it within a certain period of time and then get busy and work on these projects. As you initiate and work on various projects your polish will start to show within other venues and this includes the way you present yourself when putting together your proposal to the prospective client.

Step 3. Highlight the projects you are working and projects you've performed in the past that you feel will be beneficial as far as experience for the client.

In example, if you are bidding for an e-book project suggest how your current work on your self-assigned projects will be helpful in the construction and composition of his or her e-book. The thing is you do not disclose these projects are self-assigned: Afterall, how else are you to gain experience if you do not help yourself?

Also, I think it most advisable to explain to the client how you will implement and work on the project. Provide them with the confidence that you have good work habits.

In regard to the e-book scenario I might convey to the client that I would initially construct a table of contents, that is if they had not constructed one already, and present this table of contents for their review. Then once the table of contents was approved, I'd use it as an outline wherein I would create their book.

I might also let them know I'd allow them to read the first few chapters and continue on if everything was to their liking.

Generally, I let the client know how long it may take me to compose so many pages of the book.

Now they have a good idea of how I work and how my current skill set will benefit them relative to their project.

Step 4. Next you will want to breakdown your bid so they will be able to see clearly that not only are you a good writer you are someone they will be comfortable in doing business.

In example, if I were going to put together a bid for articles, I might show that my total bid amount of theoretically $200 included 100 articles of 400 to 500 words each at $1.00 per article with projected delivery date two weeks from inception of project. Since GAF requires you to provide a total bid amount this breakdown of your total bid will be most helpful to your client.

Try to be succinct as possible yet informative as to your skill set, work habits, and bid itemization.

Once you have created your proposal, thank the client for taking time out of his or her busy schedule to review your credentials as it relates to their project and sign the bid: Sincerely yours . . . just like you would in a letter.

Common courtesy is key however do not get "soppy" with it. It is important you maintain a professional posture.

Step 5. Also supply published writing samples for the professional employer's review. It is best that your writing samples consist of previously published works.

You may do a search of paid to write sites and publish your articles on those sites: In example, eHow.

Step 6. Next I generally go to what is the PM on the Getafreelancer site which is basically the "post message" board and send a message that goes something like this: Good news! I have just submitted a proposal for your project. The proposal is to write 100 articles of 400 to 500 words for $1.00 per article with completion within one month! (Or whatever delivery date you have decided is realistic).

The reason you want to submit such a positive meassage, is to demonstrate to the client you are full of energy and ready to get started on his or her project.

Of course you can use any of these strategies on any of the freelance writing sites; however, Getafreelancer is a good place to start!
